Romancing the Stone - Onyx
Onyx was known to the ancient Greeks and Romans. The name Onyx comes from the Greek word onyx means nail of a finger or claw. Legend says that one day while Venus was sleeping Eros/Cupid cut her fingernails and left the clippings scattered on the ground. Because no part of a heavenly body can die, the gods turned them into stone which later became known as onyx. -
Ceramic Vs Porcelain Tile
Ceramic and porcelain tiles are essentially very similar. They are both made from clay and undergo a similar baking process. Ceramic tiles are more absorbent as they're made from porous clay, and are therefore best suited for indoor walls. Porcelain tiles, made of refined clay are harder and better for high traffic or wet areas. Because of the cost effectiveness they are mostly referred as Cheap ceramic and porcelain tiles or cheap ceramic and porcelain floors.

Romancing the Stone - Limestone
Limestone was most popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Train stations, banks and other structures from that era are normally made of limestone. Limestone is used as a facade on some skyscrapers, but only in thin plates for covering rather than solid blocks. In the United States, Indiana, most notably the Bloomington area, has long been a source of high quality quarried limestone, called Indiana limestone. Many famous buildings in London are built from Portland limestone. -
Romancing the Stone - Travertine
Travertine derives its name from the town Tivoli. Tivoli was known as Tibur in ancient Roman times. The ancient name for the stone was Lapis Tiburtinus, meaning tibur stone, which has been corrupted to travertine. Detailed studies of the Tivoli and Guidonia travertine deposits revealed diurnal and annual rhythmic banding and laminae. These formations commonly occur in tropical and subtropical karst areas around the world. -
